March 5th Class: Sake & Cheese

If you think all sake is like that cheap rocket fuel served hot at many Japanese restaurants, you'll be surprised by the delicacy, richness and breadth of styles available. Marcus Pakiser is Oregon's only sake sommelier; he's been a sake brewer in Colorado where he trained under a Japanese sake master, and has taken additional training in Japan. He's just come back from nearly a month in Japan, where he's been tasting artisanally produced sakes from all regions of the country, and he'll be offering a Sake & Cheese Class here on Thursday, March 5th . We'll learn about styles of sake, how it's made, why it doesn't cause hangovers -- and best of all, what a terrific, versatile cheese-pairing beverage it is! Sake: it ain't just for sushi anymore.
