August 19th Class: Olive Oil
August 11, 2008
Selecting olive oil can be a daunting task: there are so many and it's not always obvious from the bottle how one differs from another. Without some basic knowledge, we're left to choose based on pretty vague ideas and associations ("This is from Italy. I like pizza so I guess I'll like this.") or the attractiveness of the label ("Ooooh, pretty!") If you'd like to learn more about olive oil, join us for a class on August 19th. Luan will lead a tasting of EVOs (that's jargon for Extra Virgin Olive oils) from around the world, including Italy, Spain, France, Morocco, Turkey, Australia, and the US. We'll discuss how the oils are made, why one bottle costs $15 and another $40, how to store your oils, and answer the burning question: what the heck is an extra virgin?
